Governor DeSantis Planning for Phase Two of State COVID-19 Response 

Governor DeSantis has announced he is working on a plan to launch phase two of the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which he hopes to announce next week. Particularly, DeSantis has stated that he is looking to update protocols for restaurants and large events and increase testing.

Duval County Beaches and Parks Will Reopen 

Duval has decided to reopen Jacksonville beaches and public parks for limited use. Beaches will only be open in mornings and evenings, from 6AM to 11AM and 5PM to 8PM. Essential recreational activities are permitted, but large group gatherings remain prohibited.  

Pinellas County Keeps Beaches and Pools Closed 

Yesterday, the Pinellas County Commission decided not to reopen beaches and pools. County Administrators and the Pinellas County Sheriff argued that the closures were necessary to stop the spread of COVID-19. Pinellas County beaches have been closed since March 20. 

Lakeland to Open First Drive-Thru Testing Site 

Lakeland will open its first drive-thru testing site on Monday. Testing personnel will wear full PPE and patients are requested to wear masks. Testing will be open on weekdays and will remain open until supplies are depleted. There are now 24,119 cases throughout the state of Florida and 686 deaths. In Duval County, there are 794 cases and 14 deaths. In Hillsborough County, there are 917 cases and 18 deaths. In Orange County, there are 1,135 cases and 21 deaths. In Pasco County, there are 193 cases and 3 deaths. In Pinellas County, there are 557 cases and 15 deaths.
