Testing at Raymond James Stadium Extended 

Drive-thru testing at Raymond James Stadium will be extended through April 8. This was enabled by Hillsborough County Emergency Management securing 1,000 additional testing kits.  

Howard Franklin Bridge Construction Will Continue  

Governor DeSantis has ordered the acceleration of several construction projects throughout Florida in response to the reduction of road traffic brought by the Stay-at-Home order. The $864 million Howard Frankland Bridge project to replace the existing northbound bridge has been accelerated by nearly four weeks. The project includes two toll lanes and four non-toll lanes. 

Record Unemployment Applications in Florida 

Florida has reached a record high in new employment benefit applications. The week of March 38 had 227,000 initial claims, double the amount from the previous week. 

New Model Suggests COVID-19 Infections Will Peak in Florida in Early May 

The University of Washington has developed a model that projects a peak around May 3. Florida is identified as a state still in the early stages of the outbreak, suggesting cases will continue to increase in the coming weeks. Under the model, Florida, like the rest of the nation, is expected to see a sharp reduction in new deaths by early June. This does not preclude the possibility of a second wave later in the year.

Updated Numbers 

Yesterday, Florida had its greatest daily increase of coronavirus cases. There are now 8,010 cases throughout the state and 128 deaths.
