Governor DeSantis’ Task Force to Reopen Economy Meets  

Governor DeSantis’ task force to reopen Florida’s economy met via conference call yesterday. The task force will oversee three working groups, ranging from low-risk industries (i.e. finance and government) to high-risk industries (i.e., restaurants and tourism). The task force identified testing as “key” to reopening Florida businesses

Hillsborough County to Receive $256 Million from CARES Act 

Hillsborough County will receive $256 million from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. Residents and small business owners will eventually be able to apply to receive financial assistance from these funds. Additionally, Hillsborough is anticipating further federal funding.

Tampa’s One Tampa Fund Reaches Capacity  

A day and a half after applications opened, Tampa’s One Tampa: Relief Now, Rise Together fund has reached capacity. The fund was expected to last a full week, but 10,000 inquiries were submitted in less than 1.5 days. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor asked for disaster recovery funding from the county for the program. 

Florida Orchestra Officially Ends Season 

The Florida Orchestra has officially cancelled the rest of its season in the interest of public safety. Over a dozen more performances had been scheduled before the COVID-19 put an end to all public gatherings. The Florida Orchestra’s Board of Directors will continue to pay musicians and staff through May. Fans can listen to recordings of live performances on Classical WSMR 103.9 and 89.1 and wsmr.org.

There are now 27,495 cases throughout the state of Florida and 839 deaths. In Duval County, there are 901 cases and 16 deaths. In Hillsborough County, there are 977 cases and 19 deaths. In Orange County, there are 1,222 cases and 27 deaths. In Pasco County, there are 211 cases and 3 deaths. In Pinellas County, there are 611 cases and 17 deaths.
