Hillsborough County to Test All First Responders and Medical Staff at Nursing Homes 

Hillsborough County has received 44,000 rapid response kits to test first responders, including fire, EMS, and police. The kits will also be used to test staff at assisted living facilities and nursing homes. The results from the tests only take 10 minutes and are administered via finger prick.   

Major Retailers Limit Number of Shoppers Allowed in Store 

Target began implementing occupancy limits in its stores this weekend in an effort to facilitate social distancing efforts. Walmart also put occupancy limits in place, reducing its capacity to about 20% by preventing more than five shoppers per 1,000 square feet. Costco, Lowe’s, and Trader Joe’s have also limited number of shoppers allowed in their stores at one time.  

Staff & Inmates at Florida State Prison Test Positive 

23 staff members and two inmates have tested positive for coronavirus in a Florida prison. Around the country, concerns have risen about increased infection risk in prisons. The Florida Department of Corrections has implemented social distancing measures for meals and recreational periods, increased cleaning and disinfecting, suspended visitations, and waived co-pays for inmates with respiratory illness.  

Experts Warn: Difficult Week Ahead 

U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams compared the coming week to 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, warning that “this is going to be the hardest and the saddest week of most Americans’ lives”. White House Coronavirus Task Force Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx has said she anticipates a notable increase in the death toll from the virus this week, particularly in New York, Detroit, and Louisiana.
