You are currently viewing Why Your Content Marketing Strategy Isn’t Working (Yet)

Content marketing is one of the most popular approaches in digital marketing right now. In fact, 93 percent of B2B companies say they use some form of content marketing. Yet, fewer than 10 percent of these businesses feel their efforts are truly effective.

Why is this the case? The main reason is simple: most companies don’t have a clear strategy.

Anyone can write a blog post and publish it on their company website. Tools like WordPress make blogging easy to manage. But just posting isn’t enough. You need a plan to create unique content that truly serves your audience, and that requires time and effort.

Here are three steps to build a content marketing plan:

  1. Figure out how you will create your content.
  2. Decide how you will promote it.
  3. Then, identify what resources you will need.

Many companies believe content marketing is simply posting a weekly blog and sharing it on social media. But to get the results you want, you need to do more.

The next step, and the most important, is promoting your content. It’s better to have less content and promote it well than to have lots of content with no strategy to share it. Use social media, email campaigns, influencer partnerships, and other tactics to reach your audience.

Finally, make sure you have the right resources for your content strategy. Will you spend more on digital ads to get more clicks or engagement? Will you hire someone to manage your content marketing, or outsource it? Content marketing costs time and money, so be ready for the extra effort if you want to succeed.
